AMA Tools

Health Literacy Kit: The Health Literacy and Patient Safety: Help Patients Understand educational kit is the AMA Foundation's primary tool for informing physicians, health care professionals and patient advocates about health literacy.

Physicians & Other Health Care Professionals to Patient Relationships: This program provides background information and tools to help physicians support their patients' efforts to change four key health behaviors: diet, physical activity, alcohol consumption, and tobacco use.  The Physicians' Guide describes the important role physicians play in fostering lifestyle change, and explains how physicians can implement strategies to assess patients' readiness to change and how to counsel patients on making these changes. The tool-kit provides a self-assessment questionnaire, action plans, progress tracking calendars, and a poster to help physicians help patients implement needed behavior changes.

Adult Vaccination: A Step-by-Step Guide: The Immunization Action Coalition (IAC), has just released an excellent resource for adult immunization "Adults Only Vaccination: A Step-by-Step Guide." This indispensable resource compares favorably with other such indispensable immunization resources as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's "Pink Book" and the American Academy of Pediatrics' "Red Book." Designed to help integrate immunization services into settings new to adult vaccination, the guide is equally valuable for use in settings experienced in vaccine delivery to adult and pediatric patients alike.

New toolkit helps educate patients about preventing pneumococcal disease: Physicians now have new resources to help them ensure that their adult patients are immunized for pneumococcal disease. Developed by the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases (NFID), the Professional Practice Toolkit contains a host of materials that physicians can use to educate patients about the importance of preventing pneumococcal disease, as well as tools to support their own vaccination efforts.Visit the NFID's vaccination website to learn more about vaccines for adult patients.
