ICD-10-CM Coding Workshop, San Bernardino

This class is appropriate for anyone in the practice. Experienced coders will get the technical details they need to begin learning the ICD-10 system. Clinical and non-clinical staff seeking a better understanding of the overall conversion are also encouraged to attend. The content covered in this course assumes a basic to intermediate understanding of ICD-9-CM coding. Participants will gain comprehension in the following areas:
• Implementation and compliance dates and guidelines
• Key points that every coder must know about the new system
• Clinical preparedness
• Administrative preparedness such as documentation, forms, software and compliance
• Major changes to established coding guidelines with the implementation of ICD-10
• Requirements to satisfy Quality of Care standards and reporting, hierarchy of conditions and diagnosis coding
• Coding structure differences including use of extensions
• Future status of supplementary classifications and combination codes
• Characteristics of new expanded codes, detail and changes in timeframes
• ICD-10 section and chapter overview
• Web resources for ICD-10 guidance
• Education of staff, physicians and other providers
• Auditing preparation requirements
• Analysis of differences in ICD-9 vs. ICD-10 and how to translate between the two
• Hands-on coding that will provide challenges for every coder/biller.
