In most cases, professional dues are tax deductible as a business expense. Professional dues are not tax deductible s charitable contributions for income tax purposes. However, they may be tax deductible as ordinary and necessary business expenses subject to restrictions imposed by law with respect to association lobbying activities. The Revenue Reconciliation Act of 1993 states that Association dues used for lobbying activities are not deductible as a business expense. As a result 3% of RCMA dues, 30% of CMA dues and 45% of AMA dues for 2006 cannot be deducted as a business expense for federal income tax purposes.

RIVPAC-CALPAC-AMPAC
RIVPAC is a voluntary membership organization which contributes to candidates for local office. CALPAC and AMPAC are voluntary membership organizations which contribute to candidates for state and federal office. Political action through candidate support activities is an effective way for organized medicine to accomplish its legislative goals and priorities. Political law and CALPAC policy determine how your contribution is allocated. If you pay your political contribution with a corporate check, the funds will be used in state races.  If you pay with a non-corporate check, your contribution will be deposited in a federal PAC fund.

Contributions are not limited to the suggested amount and a decision not to participate will not affect your membership status with the RCMA, CMA, or AMA. RIVPAC is sponsored by the Riverside County Medical Association. CALPAC is sponsored by the California Medical Association.

Contributions are not deductible as charitable contributions for federal income tax purposes.

CMA PHYSICIAN'S ISSUES COMMITTEE
More and more public policy issues - many of them affecting medicine - are being decided via statewide ballot initiatives. An effective, well financed issues PAC will give physicians the financial clout that is necessary to participate in the early, formative states of ballot initiatives. Without this, ballot issues will be shaped by others - most likely our adversaries.

Your contribution is not limited to the suggested amount. A decision not to participate will not affect your membership status with the CMA. Your contribution will be utilized in state initiative or measure campaigns. PIC is sponsored by the California Medical Association. Contributions are not deductible as charitable contributions for federal income tax purposes.
